What is Galeon?

Galeon is a web browser for "advanced users". Despite it's description, Galeon is very user friendly and easy to use once you get it configured and ready to go.

Configuring Galeon

Galeon's user interface might feel familiar to some, and that would be mostly because Galeon is based off of the Mozilla "Gecko" engine, which is the same engine used by Firefox, Thunderbird and Seamonkey (Iceweasel, Icedove and Iceape respectively).

Galeon's configuration options are located in the "Edit" section of the toolbar. The three options on the bottom are the ones we're interested in: Personal Data, Toolbar and Preferences

Personal Data

This is the area where you can edit your stored information, like cookies, caches and saved passwords The personal data userface is very easy to use, but understanding the concept behind each of it's options isn't a task suitable for someone new to Debian / Advanced browsing.

Toolbar

The toolbar editor is used to edit, you guessed it, the toolbar! Using this we can drag any items on the toolbar to make Galeon look the way we want it to. This style of editing is very similar to Epiphany's drag and drop interface.

Preferences

In here is most of the configuration data. I say most because there is one area where some of the more advanced configuration is done, without even a user interface. Anyway, in the preferences are multiple areas to change your settings. How you want everything is up to you, I'm only here to tell you where to find the options.

Advanced Configuration

To access Galeon's advanced configurations you'll need gconf and gconf-editor installed. If you don't have them installed they're one apt-get away (Although they should be dependencies of Galeon, but who knows). Run gconf-editor, and Galeon is located under Apps > Galeon. All of the configuration that can't be found in Galeon's UI preferences can be found here, including all of the preferences that can be changed from Galeon's UI.
