##############################################
### So you'd like to edit this page? Please read this first!
##############################################
###
### The most common reason people edit this page seems to
### be when they're creating some new awesome page in the
### wiki, and don't know where to link it to. "So", they think, "let's stick
### it on the front page, then it will get lots of exposure and become
### even better."
###
### One problem with this plan is that your new awesome page
### is probably incomplete, needs polishing, and is not ready
### to be one click away from the front page of the Debian wiki
### The content on this front page reflects on the Debian project;
### we don't need lots of links to half-completed pages here.
###
### The other problem with this plan is that if everyone does that, the
### front page becomes an ungodly mess, that no-one reads. This has
### happened several times, and been cleaned up by _deleting_
### lots of links. To avoid that happening to your link, try to find other
### relevant pages to link to it instead. If such a page doesn't exist,
### create one. For example, if you've written a tip about configuring
### $SOME_PROGRAM in Debian, don't slap a link to it onto the
### front page. Instead, look for a page listing such tips, and add
### your page to it. If such a tips page doesn't exist, create one, and
### move any other tips from the front page to it. Make the wiki better
### organised, not just bigger!
###
### If you'd still like to see your page featured on the front page,
### consider using the SpotLight, below, for this. This can be used to
### let your page show up on the front page, until the next big
### thing comes along.
###
### Thank you for reading this and for contributing to the wiki.

This wiki is a new, official [http://www.debian.org Debian] resource. On [http://wiki.debian.net wiki.debian.net], there's a lot of older content available, and a number of people are working together with Michael Ivey, the administrator of wiki.debian.net, to see how to best combine both efforts. The goal is to migrate the content of wiki.debian.net to wiki.debian.org, and discontinue wiki.debian.net as it is now. ||<tablestyle="width:100%;border:0 hidden; vertical-align: top;">||

Because of this migration in preparation/progress, '''any page existing on both wiki's will cause extra troubles migrating'''. Therefore, while the status of the migration is yet unclear, we kindly ask you to not create pages already existing on wiki.debian.net, and to not really fork any pages. This website is a ''Wiki''. A Wiki is a collaborative site, anyone can contribute and share:

 * Edit any page by pressing '''[[GetText(Edit)]]''' at the top or the bottom of the page
 * Create a link to another page with joined capitalized words (like WikiSandBox) or with {{{["quoted words in brackets"]}}}
 * Search for page titles or text within pages using the search box at the top of any page
 * See HelpForBeginners to get you going, HelpContents for all help pages.

Interesting starting points:
 * RecentChanges: see where people are currently working
 * WikiSandBox: feel free to change this page and experiment with editing
 * FindPage: search or browse the database in various ways
 * SyntaxReference: quick access to wiki syntax
 * SiteNavigation: get an overview over this site and what it contains

To learn more about what a WikiWikiWeb is, read about MoinMoin:WhyWikiWorks and the MoinMoin:WikiNature. Also, consult the MoinMoin:WikiWikiWebFaq. This wiki is powered by MoinMoin.

== Older Content ==

Why does this wiki exist, who is running it, and why isn't data from wiki.debian.net, which is until now used by the debian developers, migrated here? As far as I know the guy running wiki.debian.net wrote somewhere that he'd be happy to give wiki.debian.net's data away to the debian people... (asks and says HenningSprang)

To the best of my understanding, the problem is that it isn't trivial to migrate kwiki to moin moin -- but if someone comes up with a data.tar.gz or whatever it takes to unpack in wiki.debian.org containing the wiki.debian.net data, I think it isn't a problem to do the migration. Anyway, about who runs the wiki, this wiki is run by DSA, Debian's System Administration. ["Jeroen"]

All you had to do was ask. http://wiki.debian.net/~ivey/debwiki.tgz should work. Let me know if you need anything else. As an aside: even though I have been asking the DSA to take over the Wiki for over a year...it would have been nice if someone had let me know it was happening. -- MichaelIvey (PS: Could someone keep us posted on the MigrationStatus)

I (DavidRichardBell) am now starting to restructure this wiki and integrate the content from my own resources, and wiki.debian.net
