FreedomBox for classrooms (Danny)
Use case: riot server hosting a class wiki (MediaWiki)
- Requests from the user:
- 1. make this wiki publicly visible on the public internet
- Work with network administrators at Cornell
- Public IP address + Domain name
- Reverse proxy as another option
- 2. URL modifications: wants to change the URL to the wiki so that is is shorter and more "natural"
- Wiki as the frontpage
- Prioritize for August trials for Cornell
- there were thoughts about choosing a default app for the freedombox so that the default start up is for one app (this is possible)
- 3. Template wiki's built in to system: wiki software that comes pre-built for classroom use with extensions, plug ins, and configurations. Include a "choose a template" page
- feature request on the wiki pkg
- Need a list of plug-ins, configurations to support
- 4. Disable apps: make them appear grayed out in the UI for users
- you can disable apps so they dont appear at all in the UI using a configuration file (under /etc/plinth/modules-enabled)
- 1. make this wiki publicly visible on the public internet
- Support for Purism Librem 5 smart phone (Danny)
- PureOS is fork of Debian
Two cases: (1) installing freedombox on the Librem 5 or (2) installing a client app to help you manage a FreedomBox
- this freedombox client should be a debian client which can easily be intergrated into the PureOS fork. the main challenge is ying it to the phone screen and things that are unique to having a phone. everything else is Debian
https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=901506 port-for is a command-line utility and a python library that helps with local TCP ports management.
