Debian GNU/kFreeBSD on the desktop status

GNOME

This covers the state of the uncustomised GNOME desktop in Debian GNU/kFreeBSD at time of writing, focusing on the bugs. The GNOME desktop is the default Debian desktop and is the desktop installed if a "Graphical desktop environment" is selected during install.

Wheezy GNOME

xserver-xorg will not currently install because of a hal issue, see 624398. fixed

gdm3: fails to start, and shows the 'fail whale'

If GNOME is started from lightdm or startx, a fallback session begins to starts up, then the 'fail whale' modal dialog appears.
