 MiniDebConfWomen 2014 Barcelona Call for Papers
=================================================

DebianWomen is proud to announce the first MiniDebConfWomen! The event will
take place on 15-16 March 2014, in Barcelona, where Debian enthusiasts
from far and wide will gather to talk about the latest Debian changes and
the Debian community, as well as to meet new and old friends.

We want to have a MiniDebConf with both talks and social events, to which
everyone in Debian is invited but the speakers in the talks are all people
that identify as female.

This would help in several ways:

 * Encourage women who haven't yet given their first DebConf talk
 * Provide role models for women who are interested in contributing
 * Debunk the myth that there are not enough women who can give talks
 in DebConf

The idea behind the conference is not to talk about women in free software,
or women in Debian, but rather to talk about Debian subjects.

Debian Women invites submissions of proposals for papers, presentations,
discussion sessions and tutorials for the event.

Submissions are not limited to traditional talks: you could propose a
performance, art installation, debate, or anything else.

Submission of a formal written paper for the conference proceedings is
optional, though encouraged. Providing a written paper in advance
means that interested people can attend your session ready with ideas for
discussion, and especially helps those who find it hard to follow rapid
English speech.

Regular sessions will be 45 minutes long, including time for questions,
with a 15 minute break between events.

All talks are welcome, whether newbie level or very advanced level. We may
later divide them into tracks. We may also accept talks in English, Spanish or Català, please specify your desired language.

If you have one or more talk proposals, please write us at
debian-miniconf@cpl.upc.edu (public list). You don't need to commit yourself
yet to attending or to giving a talk. Feel free to send us new ideas even
if you don't plan to give the talk yourself.

Here are a few example ideas of topics that might be interesting to present:

 * Running Debian on your mobile phone
 * The Debian Welcoming Team
 * Introduction to packaging in Debian
 * Doing translations for Debian

We hope to see you in Barcelona!
