Translation(s): ?Español

There are simple and effective steps that help translating and preserve synced the original pages and the translations

  1. Page naming convention
  2. Translations link bar
  3. Version information from source page
  4. Subscribe to source and translation pages of interest

By convention initial pages are in english and then translated to other languages.

Page naming convention

Prefix the translation page with the code of the language, followed by the path of the source page, for example, spanish uses es as prefix. This page spanish translation is es/DebianWiki/TranslationCoordination/HowToTranslate

The source page should have some marks and links to the translation pages, for this particular page, if you look at the this page code when editing or when using the action=raw , you will see something like at the beginning of the page

##For Translators - to have a constantly up to date translation header in you page, you can just add a line like the following (with the comment's character at the start of the line removed)
##<<Include(DebianWiki/TranslationCoordination/HowToTranslate, ,from="^##TAG:TRANSLATION-HEADER-START",to="^##TAG:TRANSLATION-HEADER-END")>>
##TAG:TRANSLATION-HEADER-START
~-[[DebianWiki/EditorGuide#translation|Translation(s)]]: [[es/DebianWiki/TranslationCoordination/HowToTranslate|Español]] - ~
##TAG:TRANSLATION-HEADER-END

The translation page needs to transclude the translations link bar using the marks given in the source page. If you look at ?es/DebianWiki/TranslationCoordination/HowToTranslate when editing or using the ?action=raw you will see:

#format wiki
#language es
##SYNCHRONISED WITH ENGLISH VERSION 12
<<Include(DebianWiki/TranslationCoordination/HowToTranslate, ,from="^##TAG:TRANSLATION-HEADER-START",to="^##TAG:TRANSLATION-HEADER-END")>>

In upppercase there is information for the next editor to know what versions to compare in order to update

The part that has the <<Include... trasncludes the portion of the source page that holds the links to the various translations of the page.
