MiniDebCamp in Thailand

Welcome to wiki page for DebCamp in Thailand.

During visiting Mini DebConf 2009 in Taiwan, a group of Thais (Theppitak, Kitt, Neutron, and Prach) discussed with Andrew Lee about organizing a Debian-related event in Thailand. Andrew suggested to start with organizing a DebCamp. We believe many DDs would love to join the DebCamp in Thailand :)

So, this is a wiki page to gather all information required to organize the event.

Checklist

Local Team

  • Kitt <kitty at kitty.in.th> will gather all the people and organize the team. Debian is community-driven, organizing this event should be like that too! For now, he will be the point of contact.

  • Neutron <neo.neutron at gmail.com> will be local coordinator and local staff.

  • Thep <thep at debian.org>.

  • Prach <prachpub at gmail.com>.

Transportation

There are direct flights 3 times daily by Thai Airways International from Suvarnabhumi International Airport (BKK) to Khon Kaen Airport (KKC). From the airport, the local organizer could arrange transportation to the venue. As of September 2009, one-way flight ticket ~ $USD 45-90 (ChristianPerrier: EUR136 for a return ticket as of January 7th).

Schedule:

Conference Facilities

  • Network: KKU is one of the GigaPOPs of UniNet - Thailand's hi-speed inter-university backbone. KKU directly connects to the GigaPOP switch at 1 Gbps (+ 200 Mbps backup link), and provides 1-Gbps fiber downstream to all buildings in the university. Also, KKU has the campus-wide 802.11b/g wireless network to access the Internet. Kitt could contact KKU's Computer Center to provide additional network facility for the event if required.

  • Rooms: probably at Kwan Mor Accommodation.

  • Cost: ??

  • Capacity: how many people fit in ?

  • Handicapped people: ?

  • Audio/Visual: could be arranged by the local organizer.

Sponsorships

  • Feel free to fill ;)

Local Sponsors

  • Khon Kaen University may provide local sponsors for network connectivity, conference venue, local staffs, transportation.
  • Kitt will contact local government/private/non-profit organizations to get more sponsors.

Food

  • Thailand is the world's kitchen. And, Khon Kaen is the capital of buffet -- barbecue, foods, even beers :)

  • Dishes are relatively cheap ($USD 1-5).

madduck: back then, I knew some influential people at the TTA and the telecom, but they no longer work there, and after the uprests of last year, and after Singapore bought thai telecom, I don't have contacts anymore. :( But I will support any Debian activity in Thailand as best as I can.
