Tanglu is a project to provide the Debian operating system easily installable and usable even for non-technical computing device users.

Goals

The project aims at developing the necessary usability improvements within the debian project, being one of the DebianPureBlends. Desireable goals include:

  • Working with the DebianDesktop project to obsoleting the ?DebianDesktopHowto

Tanglu's derivative distribution aims at providing working solutions for the requirements of its users.

The goal is to have the Tanglu release used together with Debian, where DebianStable can run on servers and the Tanglu releases of DebianTesting provide newer packages for end-user devices. Tanglu also allows to distribute and test new upstream software at Tanglu users while Debian is in freeze.

In short, you can think of Tanglu as a community-maintained Ubuntu.

Status

The Tanglu distribution was started in april 2013 by setting up ?www.tanglu.org repositories and beginning work on a Live CD.

Ideas for developments

  • Make rich descriptions for popular applications available right in the package manager. (For example, use descripions from communitity maintained wikis such as ?wiki.ubuntuusers.de.)
