About this Event

Many Debian folks over the world have vacation on December. It's a good time to make DebCamp in Taiwan to make Debian folks getting together. We have ?TaiwanDebianMeeting/DebCamp each year on December for three years. Debian folks will get together at the end of the year, to share and exchange their discoveries of the year.

Please join in a relaxed mood, like in a vacation. Families and friends are welcome to join.

Event details

This DebCamp event is a BarCamp style event. It is an intense event with discussions, demos and interaction from attendees. If you like the idea, you can help us in several ways:

• Join our organizer team and help coordinate the efforts.
• Donating resources (flight tickets for guests, food, accommodation for the guests, transport).
• Enrich our schedule with your ideas, talk topics or hands-on workshops.
• Simply take part (see information below).
• Also, if you have any ideas that don't fit into any of the categories, please contact us.

Anyone with something to contribute or with the desire to learn is welcome and invited to join.

When

17-22 December 2008

Where

We will hold this DebCamp at Dulan (都蘭) village, Taitung, which is a beautiful place and near the east coast and coast mountains. It's a village has a lot of artists live there. We wish to have music and fun together with the local artists.

Free wifi available at Dulan Cafe (more details on Google Map).

Time table(flexible)

Day0(17 Dec)

• Getting together
• Invite related people attend the focus discussion on Day3 and Day4

Day1(18 Dec)

• Visit indigenous people's villages to continue the locale data collection project for http://wiki.debian.org/I18n/TaiwanLocalizationProject

• Go around to villages/towns and have one event each day to promote Open Source software (I have Ubuntu CDs we can distribute -- Arne)

Day2(19 Dec)

• Attend the local festivals

Day3(20 Dec)

• Focus Discussion on Education, Culture, Economy, Environment, Technology and Design
• Experience indigenous peoples' traditional arts and foods (enjoy that with your musical instruments).

Day4(21 Dec)

• Make plan for 2009 based on day3 focus discussion.

Day5(22 Dec)

• Drum and drum

Event Preparation

If you want to be involved in the organisation, then please join our #debcamp channel at irc.oftc.net . Otherwise, just sign up on the participants list below. The event is open to everyone.

Hotel

Andrew suggested stay in Dulan, and here are some choices.

• B&B (from NT$500 ~ NT$1500 pre room)

• hire a house (for 6 ~ 8 people, about 6000 NTD per day)

Transportations

You can take a train or flight to Taitung, and get a vehicle for next few days.
