*A CD version of the OS which can optionally (at the NGO's choosing)boot straight into a fully-functional web application complete with database and as much functionality as their inter/intranet site(if possible) .This is in addition to the standard open office tools within the OS.This will allow field staff with limited or non-existant net connections access to important information. This can optionally be called an 'Electronic Toolkit for Field Staff'. | *A CD version of the OS which can optionally (at the NGO's choosing) boot straight into a fully functional web application complete with database and as much functionality as their inter/intranet site (if possible) .This is in addition to the standard Open Office tools within the OS.This will allow field staff with limited or non-existant net connections access to important information. People have identified the following as things that non-profits need that can be met by this subproject:
- handicap accessability ["DebianNPAccessability"]
- usability on old donated equipment (can we make something that will work on a Pentium 75 with 32megs of RAM? Can we make something that will work with that hardware, but can have more features with a better processor or memory?
- Then Evolution won't do as mail application
- fundraising (database, mailings)
- finances
- ASP style services (opengroupware.org integration with ximian evolution contact database, calendars, etc. provide easy website CMS creation, mailing lists, email addresses with existing ["ISPs"] that provide these services to non-profits and activists, centralized and encrypted backup)
- File and print sharing
- Volunteer coordination (contact database, todo/project wiki, calendaring/scheduling)
- Office scheduling (who will watch the desk on Tuesday? Who will be tabling at the Fair on Saturday?)
- Live event planning/scheduling/managing/ticketing
- Office inventory, needs, donations
- Office suite (openoffice)
- Web browser
- Mail, news, addressbook client (evolution?)
- Security
- Journaling evaluation system (journy mapping, or results mapping) - great to have when applying for funding, or more importantly to look back and see how effectively you are accomplishing your mission.
- Ease of use
- Internationalization options
- Freedom! DFSG compliance
- Keep configuration limited or removed completely
- Databases: ["DebianNPDatabases"]
- Documentation: ["DebianNPDocumentation"]
- Software for mass e-mailing member newsletters
- Good HTML editor or other way to maintain web sites
- A separate server version? ["DebianNPServer"] - a client side version could try and determine, with one or two questions, if it would make sense to do a thin-client model, based on the hardware, or do a regular harddrive installation.
