This page tracks problems with the DebianInstaller daily developmental builds on a daily basis. If you are using a daily build and it breaks, check here before filing a bug report.

This is not intended as a replacement for the BTS, just a quick list of the most pressing issues of the day. This page is maintained by the d-i developers. We only list issues here that affect most users. If you feel an issue should be added, please ask on #debian-boot on irc.debian.org or send an e-mail to debian-boot@lists.debian.org.

Note

The issues listed below do not affect official releases; see the errata for the relevant release instead:

Also, daily builds sometimes fail. Check this page to see if a daily build is current or failing: http://people.debian.org/~joeyh/d-i/build-logs.html

Current issues

  • [30 Oct 05] amd64: apt does not know about the amd64 archive's gpg key, which breaks all amd64 installs except from netinst or full CD.
  • [29 Oct 05] New component Set up users and passwords is broken but can be skipped safely

  • [29 Oct 2005] amd64: Recent AMD64 netinst CD images are missing some essential packages; installation will fail during the base installation phase; other installation methods for AMD64 are failing too, probably because of related reasons
  • [13 Oct 05] Low memory (~32 mb) installs may be broken. The installer's memory consumption changes as it's developed and as the kernel changes, and we've not been trying to keep it working. Use on low memory systems at your own risk.
  • [11 Oct 05] etch_d-i CD images are not yet ready for public consumption; please use the daily (or sid_d-i) images instead
  • [27 Sep 05] S/390: starting from version 1.6.23-1, libparted and thus partconf no longer recognizes existing partitions on a dasd volume
  • [1 Aug 05] sparc: netboot image needs to be passed ramdisk_size=16000 to boot the 2.4 kernel properly

Past issues

  • [19 Oct 05] secure apt [http://bugs.debian.org/334656 won't work] with any debian CDs as it cannot validate them; this breaks all CD images except businesscard and netboot mini ISOs. Symptom: failed to install initrd-tools

  • [26 Oct 05] new debootstrap breaks all installations; a fix has been uploaded so hopefully tomorrow's daily images are OK again
  • [18 Oct 05] current installer images cannot automatically load modules for PCMCIA cards when running the 2.6 kernel; a workaround is to switch to VT2 and manually 'modprobe pcmcia' before configuring the network (fixed in unstable, should reach testing soon)
  • [18 Oct 05] debootstrap has stopped being able to install testing
  • [19 Oct 05] installations from unstable fail to create a user in the second stage due to an [http://bugs.debian.org/332815 adduser bug]

  • [27 Sep 05] we have been informed that vfat partitions may be destroyed when resized using the current version of libparted (1.6.24) used by the installer; a normal installation should present no problems
  • [1 Jun 05] the weekly testing CD image builds are down
  • [06 Oct 05] mips: cobalt netboot image needs to be passed ramdisk_size=16000 to boot properly.
