This page tracks problems with the DebianInstaller daily developmental builds on a daily basis. If you are using a daily build and it breaks, check here before filing a bug report.

This is not intended as a replacement for the BTS, just a quick list of the most pressing issues of the day. This page is maintained by the d-i developers. We only list issues here that affect most users. If you feel an issue should be added, please ask on #debian-boot on irc.debian.org or send an e-mail to debian-boot@lists.debian.org.

Note

The issues listed below do not affect official releases; see the errata for the relevant release instead:

Also, daily builds sometimes fail. Check this page to see if a daily build is current or failing: http://people.debian.org/~joeyh/d-i/build-logs.html

Current issues

  • [18 Oct 05] current installer images cannot automatically load modules for PCMCIA cards when running the 2.6 kernel.
  • [13 Oct 05] Low memory (~32 mb) installs may be broken. The installer's memory consumption changes as it's developed and as the kernel changes, and we've not been trying to keep it working. Use on low memory systems at your own risk.
  • [11 Oct 05] etch_d-i CD images are not yet ready for public consumption. Use the sid_d-i images.
  • [27 Sep 05] s/390: starting from version 1.6.23-1, libparted and thus partconf no longer recognizes existing partitions on a dasd volume
  • [1 Aug 05] sparc: netboot image needs to be passed ramdisk_size=16000 to boot the 2.4 kernel properly

Past issues

  • [27 Sep 05] we have been informed that vfat partitions may be destroyed when resized using the current version of libparted (1.6.24) used by the installer; a normal installation should present no problems
  • [1 Jun 05] the weekly testing CD image builds are down
  • [06 Oct 05] mips: cobalt netboot image needs to be passed ramdisk_size=16000 to boot properly.
  • [16 Sep 05] the "desktop" task is broken for etch (testing)
  • [05 Oct 05] Most CD builds are failing due to changes on the build machine.
  • [30 Sep 05] hangs during base system installation (debootstrap run)
  • [22 Sep 05] bterm is broken on some displays; boot with debian-installer/framebuffer=false to get a working installer
  • [16 Sep 05] sparc: starting from version 1.6.23-1, libparted and thus partman does not recognize existing partitions on a disk with sun disklabel anymore
  • [14 Sep 05] CD builds have resumed, but packages like base-config are missing from the netinst !["CDs"]. The businesscard !["CDs"] are more likely to work. (The netinst !["CDs"] are expected to be fixed at the next daily build.)
  • [5 Jul 05] images for i386 now use 2.6.11 (2.6.12 as of 4 Aug) kernels, but still install 2.6.8 for the installed system; if your hardware needs modules not in 2.6.8, you should [http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2005/08/msg01080.html manually update] the kernel before the reboot

  • [8 Sep 05] all CD builds are down, and the last daily CD build is broken.
  • [9 Sep 05] netcfg crashes when run
  • [21 Aug 05] several components (including network configuration) missing from main menu and therefore not being run; caused by change in the way dpkg builds control files
  • [15 Aug 05] partitioning broken by partman-base change
  • [10 Jul 05] C++ ABI transition has broken debootstrap of sid and thus d-i cannot install sid right now; installing etch will work
  • [4 Aug 05] images for i386 now use 2.6.12 kernels; they do not yet seem stable: [http://bugs.debian.org/322723 networking is broken] and there are strange errors from modprobe; cause of networking breakage traced and a temporary workaround has been implemented in netcfg

  • [3 Aug 05] some mirrors are desynced; this includes some http.us.debian.org mirrors and others and will break installs using those mirrors
  • [3 Aug 05] clock-setup was broken (will be fixed tomorrow)
  • [3 Aug 05] disk-detect is not loaded in some installs (including CD) (should be fixed with 4 Aug mirror pulse and CD build)
  • [2 Aug 05] CD installs used broken initrds with libd-i mismatch, broke nearly everything
  • [1 Aug 05] detection of USB keyboards broken
