 * [15 Jul 2008] hd-media installs from USB-stick will fail due to missing UTF-8 NLS module ([http://bugs.debian.org/490562 #490562])

This page tracks problems with the DebianInstaller daily developmental builds on a daily basis. If you are using a daily build and it breaks, check here before filing a bug report.

This is not intended as a replacement for the BTS, just a quick list of the most pressing issues of the day. This page is maintained by the d-i developers. We only list issues here that affect many users. If you feel an issue should be added, please ask on #debian-boot on irc.debian.org or send an e-mail to debian-boot@lists.debian.org.

Notes

The issues listed below do not affect the stable release; see the errata instead:

Official releases and weekly builds for the testing distribution are in general also not affected. The exception to this rule is when an issue is caused not by a component of the installer, but by a regular package and that package is retrieved from a network mirror during the installation.

See also the [http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/errata errata] for the last [http://www.debian.org/devel/debian-installer/ official release] for the testing distribution. Some of the issues listed there may still apply to daily and weekly built images.

Also, daily builds for one or more architectures sometimes fail, in which case daily built images may be unavailable or outdated. Check the [http://people.debian.org/~joeyh/d-i/build-logs.html daily builds overview] to see if a daily build is current or failing.

Issues

Current

Past

Dates are when the issue was first identified, and give an indication if older images were affected or not. Current images should no longer be affected by issues listed here.

  • [18 Jun 2008] sparc: current installer images lack support for ESP/FAS SCSI support due to the fact that the sun_esp kernel module is not included

  • [03 Jun 2008] Installation of grub fails on systems with cpqarray RAID (/dev/ida/cXdX) devices ([http://bugs.debian.org/466600 #466600])

  • [22 Apr 2008] The graphical version of the installer is broken due to display issues ([http://bugs.debian.org/477331 #477331])

  • [27 Dec 2007] Partitioning will fail when the 'relatime' option is selected for a filesystem ([http://bugs.debian.org/460824 #460824]). Workaround is to simply unselect the option and try again.

  • [28 Feb 2008] The XFS file system cannot be used (partition will fail to mount) during the installation because of an issue in xfsprogs ([http://bugs.debian.org/465737 #465737]).

  • [16 Feb 2007] Any installations may fail during installation of additional packages or the bootloader due to a regression in the package management tools (apt) ([http://bugs.debian.org/466052 #466052]).

  • [10 Apr 2007] Because we have stared making fairly big changes in the installer, there is an increased risk that daily builds may be broken or have errors. If you want an installer that works, we suggest you use the images for Etch instead.
  • [04 Feb 2008] The installation of grub will fail when installing Lenny for i386 or amd64 using daily built images. Reason is a change in the default inode size for ext2/ext3 partitions. An update of grub has already been uploaded.

Sid/Unstable

You cannot install unstable (sid) using the daily netinst CD image, only testing (lenny). To install unstable, use either the netboot installation method or a daily businesscard CD image; you will need to boot the installer in expert mode or with priority=medium.
