 * [18 Sep 2007] daily builds with the graphical installer are broken on powerpc due to libglib2.0-udeb ([http://bugs.debian.org/443067 #443067])

This page tracks problems with the DebianInstaller daily developmental builds on a daily basis. If you are using a daily build and it breaks, check here before filing a bug report.

This is not intended as a replacement for the BTS, just a quick list of the most pressing issues of the day. This page is maintained by the d-i developers. We only list issues here that affect many users. If you feel an issue should be added, please ask on #debian-boot on irc.debian.org or send an e-mail to debian-boot@lists.debian.org.

Notes

The issues listed below do not affect the stable release; see the errata instead:

Official releases and weekly builds for the testing distribution are in general also not affected. The exception to this rule is when an issue is caused not by a component of the installer, but by a regular package and that package is retrieved from a network mirror during the installation.

Also, daily builds for one or more architectures sometimes fail, in which case daily built images may be unavailable or outdated. Check the [http://people.debian.org/~joeyh/d-i/build-logs.html daily builds overview] to see if a daily build is current or failing.

Issues

Current

  • [20 Jul 2007] Installs on alpha, powerpc and sparc do fail with an error "symbol snprintf, version GLIBC_2.0 not defined in file libc.so.6 with link time reference". We are working to resolve this. ([http://bugs.debian.org/434040 #434040])

  • [24 May 2007] Regressions in cleaning old LVM partitions ([http://bugs.debian.org/425829 #425829])

  • [01 May 2007] Minor display issues for CJK translations in newt frontend ([http://bugs.debian.org/425835 #425835]).

  • [10 Apr 2007] Because we have stared making fairly big changes in the installer, there is an increased risk that daily builds may be broken or have errors. If you want an installer that works, we suggest you use the images for Etch instead.

Past

Dates are when the issue was first identified, and give an indication if older images were affected or not. Current images should no longer be affected by issues listed here.

  • [11 Feb 2007] Netinst CD images are larger than they are supposed to be due to [http://bugs.debian.org/410418 #410418].

  • [31 Aug 2007] Installation of unstable is broken due to a wrong priority for the gosmore package. See [http://bugs.debian.org/439607 #439607].

  • [11 Aug 2007] Configuration of the package manager (apt-setup) will fail.
  • [26 Jul 2007] Daily built CD images for IA64 are broken due to a minor technical issue in the CD building process.
  • [03 May 2007] Kernel crash while booting S/390 with kernels later than 2.6.18 ([http://bugs.debian.org/425393 #425393]).

  • [19 May 2007] Weekly built CD/DVD images are broken due to an incorrect migration of some installer components, e.g. disk partitioning.
  • [26 Feb 2007] Installations will fail due to a missing archive signing key.
  • [17 Feb 2007] CD/DVD-based installations fail in the 'Install the base system' step with failure to check archive signature. Workaround: delete /usr/bin/gpgv and retry.

  • [26 Nov 2006] arm/ixp4xx (NSLU2): install fails due to [http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2006/11/msg01207.html dpkg database corruption]

  • [17 Oct 2006] CD-ROM support on sparc32 (esp) broken in kernel - sparc32 is not supported anymore

Sid/Unstable

You cannot install unstable (sid) using the daily netinst CD image, only testing (lenny). To install unstable, use either the netboot installation method or a daily businesscard CD image; you will need to boot the installer in expert mode or with priority=medium.
