This page tracks problems with the DebianInstaller daily developmental builds on a daily basis. If you are using a daily build and it breaks, check here before filing a bug report.

This is not intended as a replacement for the BTS, just a quick list of the most pressing issues of the day. This page is maintained by the d-i developers. We only list issues here that affect many users. If you feel an issue should be added, please ask on #debian-boot on irc.debian.org or send an e-mail to debian-boot@lists.debian.org.

Notes

The issues listed below do not affect the stable release; see the errata instead:

Official releases and weekly builds for the testing distribution are in general also not affected. The exception to this rule is when an issue is caused not by a component of the installer, but by a regular package and that package is retrieved from a network mirror during the installation.

Also, daily builds for one or more architectures sometimes fail, in which case daily built images may be unavailable or outdated. Check the [http://people.debian.org/~joeyh/d-i/build-logs.html daily builds overview] to see if a daily build is current or failing.

Issues

Current

  • [19 May 2007] Weekly built CD/DVD images are broken due to an incorrect migration of some installer components, e.g. disk partitioning. We are working to correct this.
  • [10 Apr 2007] Because we have stared making fairly big changes in the installer, there is an increased risk that daily builds may be broken or have errors. If you want an installer that works, we suggest you use the images for Etch instead.
  • [11 Feb 2007] Netinst CD images are larger than they are supposed to be due to [http://bugs.debian.org/410418 #410418].

  • [17 Oct 2006] CD-ROM support on sparc32 (esp) broken in kernel

Past

  • [26 Feb 2007] Installations will fail due to a missing archive signing key.
  • [17 Feb 2007] CD/DVD-based installations fail in the 'Install the base system' step with failure to check archive signature. Workaround: delete /usr/bin/gpgv and retry.

  • [26 Nov 2006] arm/ixp4xx (NSLU2): install fails due to [http://lists.debian.org/debian-boot/2006/11/msg01207.html dpkg database corruption]

  • [19 Jan 2007] Task installation can hang during installation of the netbase package for installs using static network configuration; see [http://bugs.debian.org/407538 #407538] for details; can also affect RC1 installs

  • [12 Jan 2007] Further breakage of the desktop task: the task is not displayed, but still gets partially installed somehow ([http://bugs.debian.org/406630 #406630])

  • [06 Jan 2007] Installation of the desktop task is currently broken due to some broken dependencies in the X packages. To workaround and get a working X after the install: apt-get install xserver-xorg-video-all xserver-xorg-input-all
  • [08 Dec 2006] Netinst images broken due to incorrect Release file on the CD.
  • [04 Dec 2006] Build error causes graphical installer to not boot correctly with CD images (installgui).
  • [30 Nov 2006] Netinst CD images broken due to CD building problem.
  • [24 Nov 2006] CD-ROM detection broken.

Sid/Unstable

You cannot install unstable (sid) using the netinst CD daily image, only etch. Use netboot installation method or business card CD image.
