Title: Alpha 1 release of Debian Installer
The Debian Installer team is pleased to announce the first alpha release of the installer for Debian GNU/Linux Squeeze.
Improvements in this release of the installer
- Kernel 2.6.30
- Ext4 support
- Improved support for stable updates
- Support for Marvell's Kirkwood platform has been added: Kirkwood is an ARM-compatible chip that goes up to 1.2 GHz. At the moment, the following Kirkwood-based devices are supported:
- Marvell OpenRD-Base and OpenRD-Client
Also, support for Intel SS4000-E
Behavioral changes in this release
- console-setup is now installed on the target system as main console handling utility. That may trigger extra questions related to keyboard layout during the installaiton of the target system. This is temporary until we completely switch to console-setup as keyboard configuration utility in Debian Installer itself.
- it is now possible to avoid the installation of recommended packages by preseeding base-installer/install-recommends or passing "recommends=false" at the boot prompt
Known issues in this release
See the errata for details and a full list of known issues.
We do need your help to find bugs and further improve the installer, so please try it. Installer CDs, other media and everything you else you will need are available at our web site.
The Debian Installer team thanks everybody who has contributed to this release.
