Event Description
On October 7 (Saturday) we're hosting for the first time a MiniDebConf composed of lectures, workshops and social events in Prishtina. The MiniDebConf Prishtina is an event open to everyone, regardless of their level of knowledge about Debian or other free and open source projects. At MiniDebConf Prishtina we are organizing talks and workshops on a range of topics incidental to Debian and free software, including any free software project, Outreachy and Google Summer of Code internships, privacy, security, digital rights and diversity in IT.
In conjunction with MiniDebConf Prishtina, we are also hosting “Fedora Women Day” - series of lectures organized by the “Fedora Diversity Team” who are members from the Fedora community and Open Labs Hackerspace in Tirana, Albania.
About MiniDebConfs
?MiniDebConfs are local meetings organized by members of the Debian Project and local Free and Open Source project related communities to achieve objectives similar to those of DebConf, but in a smaller scale and regional context. Throughout the year ?MiniDebConfs are organized around the world, as you can see on this page. A MiniDebConf is an awesome opportunity for any user who wants to experience the magic of Free and Open Source Software (FOSS). Here you can meet the veterans in FOSS development, develop professional connections which will help you in future, chat with contributors who can guide you, advance the cause of Debian and other related projects, and most importantly, grasp the essence of FOSS development. It is indeed a good opportunity that will give you a foundation to build on!
About Fedora Women Day
Fedora Women Day (FWD) is a day of celebration dedicated to the female contributors. During this day of celebration, local communities around the world will gather to present the accomplishments of the women that are part of the Fedora Project and thank them. FWD is a great chance to promote the participation of more women, bring together contributors and raise awareness about the gender gap in tech communities. This day is being celebrated across the community in order to show the importance of having women involved in open source projects, such as Fedora.
FWD is initiated by the Diversity Team within the Fedora Project. The aim of the Diversity Team is to encourage people who come from underrepresented social groups to get involved in the community. Everyone is welcomed to participate. Respect and tolerance are the greatest principals within the Fedora community and Diversity strives to make people feel accepted and more confident about their skills.

Help installing and upgrading Linux
Experts at the event can help you safely and efficiently install and configure Linux on your laptop or upgrade from an older Linux to the recently released Debian 9.0 stretch or another distribution.
If you have existing files or an existing operating system on your laptop, we can help you split the disk into separate partitions for Linux and Windows, you can then choose which one to use each time you turn on the computer. It is highly recommended that you delete unnecessary files to free disk space before coming to the event.
If you have a new laptop with nothing on it or an older laptop that you want to erase and only use for Linux then the installation process is even easier and faster.
The process of partitioning the disk, moving files to/from a backup and downloading the software can take time so we recommend coming early and starting the process in the morning. The fastest installs can take 1 - 2 hours but sometimes we will need more to help you with the disk partitioning and moving around files if you want to have two operating systems (dual boot Linux/Windows)
Please make sure you bring your power supply, any ethernet dongle required by your laptop (if it doesn't have a built-in ethernet socket), an ethernet cable (3 meters or longer, 5 meter recommended).
It is also suggested to bring an 8GB or bigger USB stick that you can erase and an external hard disk if you want to copy/backup files.
