Hardware enablement in Debian: the Thinkpad X13s experience
Emanuele Rocca
The talk will go through the steps needed to enable new hardware in Debian. In increasing order of difficulty, we will see how to enable new kernel modules, modify the Installer, build custom Live Images and CDs.
Tentative outline:
- X13s on Debian, current status
- How to enable a module in the Debian kernel
- How to ensure such module is available in the installer udebs
- Which installer udebs end up in which image (mini.iso vs netinst vs full CDs)
- Custom Installer USB sticks
- Installer hacks (eg: preseeding hook with in-target update-initramf -u -k all)
- Live images
- Build a custom Debian CD
- Next steps (efivars and such)
