Our best lead so far is this Ubuntu bug# which, though for the MSI Wind, is apparently the same device that is in the 701SD: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/246141

The latest version cited in that thread did not work for one of our testers building against the latest 2.6.26 kernel in Lenny. And while the earlier version from July built OK, the tester was unable to get it to associate with an AP. It is unknown at this point whether that was user error or a problem in the driver.

Covers the peculiarities applying to the 701SD, which looks like a normal 701, but has a strange and hitherto unseen wireless lan interface, a Realtek RTL8187SE apparently.
