Welcome to this brief introduction tour of Skolelinux, also known as DebianEdu.

[desktop introduction,, mouse can be anywhere]

This is the default desktop in the Skolelinux standalone workstation profile right after installation.

[Move mouse to Home icon]

In the upper right corner we have shortcut to the users Home directory where the user stores his / her files.

[Move mouse to Trash icon]

Below is the Trash can, here you can find deleted files or delete them permanently

[Move mouse to System icon]

This is a shortcut to the System menu which is basicly system directories that are accessable for the user, like remote places, storage media and other users folders.

[Panel introduction, move the mouse from left to right over the menu]

At the bottom we have the "Skolelinux" panel.

[move mouse the mouse to the K-menu and click on it ]

This is the start menu, also known as the K-menu. From here you can start your software, change your settings, find files etc.

[right click on K-menu and select menu editor, wait a bit and close it]

It can easily be customized by right clicking on the mouse button and click Menu editor. The administrator can also easily change this menu for all users by using the Kiosk Admin Tool available in the System section of the menu.

[move the mouse to Home icon and click it]

This is a shortcut to the your home directory where all your files are stored. The home directory only contains the Desktop directory now, but here the you can add any files and directories.

[close the home directory]

[move mouse to Iceweasel icon and click it. This is a shortcut to Iceweasel, the default browser in Skolelinux. It is a rebranded version of Firefox and is capable of doing all the stuff you do in Firefox.

[click the address field and type wikipedia.org and select the language of this tour ]

We will do a short visit to Wikipedia

[close the browser]

[move mouse to OpenOffice icon and click it ]

This is a shortcut to the ?OpenOfiice Writer, which is the Word Processor in the OpenOffice suite. From here you can also create spread sheets, presentations, databases, drawings etc. The OpenOffice suite is similiar to Microsoft Office and is able to load and save document in the Microsoft Office formats.

[write "Skolelinux tour", and make it a header 1]

This a brief tour so we will not type so much more here, but you can do everything here that you would expect from a modern Word Processor.

[Go to file and click on new]

From here you can quickly create spread sheets and more.

[Click on spread sheet. ]

I will not do add any data, but I just want show you that the user interface is very similiar to what you may be familiar with from Excel and other spread sheet tools.

OpenOffice is a very powerful Office suite that covers most of the needs of the schools.

[move mouse to desktop switcher, click on desktop 2 and desktop 1 again]

These small windows represents a desktop, the user have 4 deskops available in Skolelinux. Which he/she can easily switch between. This allows the user to have a seperate desktop for each task.

[move the mouse to task bar]

This an overview of the running software.

[move the mouse to the network manager]

This is the network manager and it is only available in the standalone profile. It allows you to change your network confuration in a easy way.

[move the mouse to the clipboard and click on it]

This is the clipboard, it contains the clip board history and makes it easy for you to paste any text from here

[close clip board]

[move to korganizer and click on it]

This application keeps track of your events and todos.
