Debian-Edu/Skolelinux 2.0 available for free download!

After twenty-one months of development, a new version of Debian-Edu/Skolelinux has been released. Debian-Edu/Skolelinux, the Debian-edu project's Custom Debian Distribution, is installed in hundreds of schools in Norway, Germany, and other countries. Many municipalities use Debian-Edu/Skolelinux across all of their schools; such centralised operation offers low maintenance and operational costs. Debian-Edu/Skolelinux is free and open source software, and for those schools that need assistance, an increasing number of commercial organisations offer maintenance and support solutions.

The new version of Debian-Edu/Skolelinux offers updated versions of popular programs such as OpenOffice.org, Mozilla Firefox, and GCompris -- all in many languages. Thin client support is improved, and configuration of diskless workstations has been made very simple. Diskless workstations allow full use of newer hardware, offering support for CD/DVD-ROM, USB-pen, and audio devices. Since all software is distributed from the Debian-Edu/Skolelinux servers, maintenance costs on diskless workstations are still marginal.
