What is a Machine Account?
- A machine account is needed in Windows NT in order to join a computer up as member of a Windows NT Domain. The machine account gives special rights within the domain and is able (among other things) to permit logins to all existing domain users — even without knowing them. In this case the Primary Domain Controller (PDC) takes control to decide who is allowed to join which considerably eases administration.
