Stable version of Debian Edu/Skolelinux
This page is work in progress and currently updated for the Lenny release! (2010-01-22)
If you consider installing Debian Edu, think about using the release candidate for the Lenny release. Etch will rather soon be deprecated (2010-02-15)!
The stable release of Debian Edu/Skolelinux, version 5.0.4+edu0, has been released on 2010-02-XX. It is based on the latest Debian Lenny release from January 30th, 2010. The previous version, 3.0r1, was released on 2007-12-05 and based on Debian Etch.
The release manual is available ?as wiki page. Translations of the document into various languages are available in PDF and HTML format. The manual includes screen shots and installation instructions.

Note: The mirrors might take some time to catch up.
Some browsers are known to have problems downloading files above 2 GiB in size. They will only download approximately 400 of the 4400 MiB images. Do not use such browser to download the DVD images, as it will not work. For example, some (all?) versions of MS Explorer are known to have this problem.
If you have problems downloading the images, you can ?order them to have them sent directly to you for a nominal fee.
Testing versions
We are always working on what will become our next stable release. To be able to test these images we build new DVD-images several times a day (if any of our developers changes any of the content). You can help us by testing images on a spare PC or in a virtual setup. Any help is appreciated.
ftp://ftp.skolelinux.org/cd-lenny-test-dvd/debian-edu-amd64-i386-DVD-1.iso
Please note that these DVD-images are intended for testing only. Do not use these for production unless you know what you are doing! You can also download/update these images with rsync:
rsync -avzP ftp.skolelinux.no::cd-lenny-test-dvd/debian-edu-amd64-i386-DVD-1.iso debian-edu-DVD-1.iso
Check the md5sum and the timestamp on ftp://ftp.skolelinux.org/cd-lenny-test-dvd/ because the file can change while downloading. Start the rsync again until the md5sum match. There are also CD images for download, but the DVD image is recommended.
Updating the CD
If you already have a version of Skolelinux and want to download the newest version, you can and should use rsync. rsync finds which chunks of the file that have been modified and downloads only those. It's faster and saves our bandwith. The following command updates your ISO-image, where filename.iso is the name of the existing file on your disk:
rsync -avzP ftp.skolelinux.no::skolelinux-cd/debian-edu-lenny-i386-netinst-5.0.3+edu0.iso filename.iso

Images for PowerPC
FIXME: Is this still of interest?
There is also an image for PowerPC available, but this has some booting problem for Macintosh. For a PegasosII PowerPC it should be working without much trouble.
