= Request a change of status =

Any Applicant to a status in the Project (either a guest LDAP account, a Debian Maintainer status, or a Debian Developer status) must create an account on [[https://nm.debian.org|nm.debian.org]].

This is done via authenticating [[https://sso.debian.org|Debian SSO]] website or [[https://salsa.debian.org|Salsa]]. The recommended method today is to rely on Salsa. Debian Developers will also get the SSO account as part of their account creation.

After the first log in, the [[https://nm.debian.org|New Member]] site will consider the user as anonymous. The Applicant therefore has to visit the [[https://nm.debian.org/public/newnm|NewNM]] page of the site to put his initial data via a web form.

When these steps are done, one can visit their personal page and request a status update to either "Debian Developer, uploading" or "Debian Developer, non-uploading" depending on what one wishes.
