Debexpo is the project name of the web app still in development to replace http://mentors.debian.net/.
About Debexpo
It is a free software web app written in Python and Turbogears. It has an automated test suite.
It is hosted on alioth.debian.org.
- It is designed to host and showcase packages. For now, it cannot build binary packages.
- It is not quite ready for the debian-mentors list; the most pressing missing feature is support for dpkg-source format version 3. The next most pressing issue is that one must store a plaintext password in your user's dput config file.
Current state
Status: still moving and redeploying
A "live" version will be deployed at http://expo.debian.net/.
A "dev" version will be deployed at http://dev.expo.debian.net/.
Current plan
- Move the git repo to Alioth
- Done!
- Move the bug tracker to Alioth
- Maybe we should just throw away the old data, and not bother migrating it? If so we're done with the bug tracker move.
- Document the way the deployment works
- Announce this page to the debian-mentors list
Project history
Here is a quick summary:
- 2008: Johnny Lamb creates most of the code during Summer of Code. It's not quite finished and deployed.
2009-2010: There are several attempts to finish and deploy debexpo. http://expo.debian.net/ is live, running on Asheesh's personal server. Due to a natural disaster, the server is temporarily switched offline.
April 2011: Asheesh, with the help of spang + <http://xvm.mit.edu/>, puts an instance of debexpo on the web.
