Capybaras are sociable animals that usually live in groups, get along with everyone, and they are the personificación of the good vibes and friendship.Debian, as a free project open and willing to reach everyone in order to create a great community, in this logo proposal merges perfectly with the characteristics of the Capybara (a native species of the host region) in this DebConf – so that coming together once again is also a FEST!

Debian SFVC Bridge

1. The hanging bridge : Its silhouette, cables, and towers symbolize local identity and the city's connection to the river. It is also a symbol of connection between communities around the world that collaborates on Debian. 2. The Debian logo : It represents the Debian project as an inspiring force. The red color reinforces the visual harmony and the link between Debian and Santa Fe. 3. The “SANTA FE” sign : It provides immediate geographical anchoring.

Debian Carpincho

The carpincho (Capybara) is an autoctonous animal of the province of Santa Fé, Entre Ríos and the Northeast of Argentina, but more prominent in these regions. A very beloved animal here. It's kind, cute and social, just like Debian!

Paraná.deb

The logo shows two brown Debian spirals, inspired by the Paraná River, once called the "brown river," which gives Santa Fe its identity. Like the river's strong flow, Debian connects places, supports communities, and helps projects all over the world. In the middle, the old Santa Fe bridge stands for connection and access: it links both sides and opens paths, just as Debian links people worldwide through free software. This design highlights the importance of the local and turns it into a symbol everyone can understand, showing the spirit of connection and freedom that defines Debian.

Connecting Ideas

Symbolises Debian’s years of history as a system that connects people all over the world through the strength and desire to create something by and for the people. Just as bridges unite cities (in this case a representative element of the city of Santa Fe), Debian is the union of today with the future. DebConf guides us to keep creating and building new creative bonds.

Capybara Swirl Logo

The Capybara, an animal characteristic of the wetlands of Santa Fe, reflects the friendly, social, and collaborative spirit of our region, values that are also present in Debian and the free software community.

?DebConf26 Mate Logo

The logo combines modern typography with regional symbolism: a mate gourd with a red straw and yellow infusion, from which the Debian swirl emerges as steam. It connects Santa Fe’s cultural identity with the global Debian community.

Abstract Suspension

"Abstract Suspension" features an abstract interpretation of Santa Fe's iconic suspension bridge, a beloved landmark that symbolizes connection, which is fitting for a conference bringing the Debian community together. The design simplifies the bridge's complex cable structure, capturing its essential form without visual clutter. This approach reflects the simplicity valued in software design, stripping away unnecessary complexity while preserving the landmark's functionality as a recognizable symbol and its deeper meaning of bringing people together.

Mate by the river

I am fully aware I am not a designer, and there are many aspects to improve in this proposal. Still, I'm sharing it in the hopes somebody can improve upon it. My daughter Elena came up with the core idea — "Deb Conf 26" inside a mate, with its vapor making up the Debian swirl. Additions came later from the whole family: A favorite way to enjoy the evening for the inhabitants of the Argentinian litoral cities is to go sit by the river and enjoy its quiet, refreshing landscape while enjoying some mate. In this proposal I'm trying to capture ① Argentina's flag, with the beautiful skies we will enjoy in Santa Fe, and the sun reflected in the river; ② the deeply social, bonding practice of sharing a mate drink; ③ Santa Fe's identity, with its iconic suspension bridge; ④ Debian, of course, with the swirl. This logo can be easily made into a photo taken just by our conference! 😉

Barquito

(Little Boat) Inspired by one of the most emblematic sculptures of the province of Santa Fe, the little paper boat symbolises the city’s historical connection with the river, its port past and its urban transformation. In the same way, Debian unites us universally, and today this small boat sails the waves of a project that grows day by day, connecting us, (as it has been doing for years) with people and ideas from all over the world, freely and openly, creating a great community.

The Sunny Iron Bridge

Using the Santa Fé flag colours, red, yellow and blue, the traditional DebConf font for the conference name, and the names of the city/country in a geometric, kind of iron cast style. We created this logo to resemble the bridge's colours and material, as it is an important element for the culture of the people living there. The actual logo doesn't include the background, but we decided to show it as a colour suggestion to represent the river water.

Mate

Using two of the Santa Fé flag colours, red and light blue, the traditional DebConf font for the conference name, and the names of the city/country in an old geometric style. I was inspired to create this logo from Elena + Gunnar's post, as they mentioned how they enjoy quiet evenings by the river while enjoying some mate, and also Valessio, who started with this mate idea lol. The actual logo doesn't include the background, but I decided to show it as a colour suggestion to represent the river water. This submission includes vertical and horizontal logos together.

A sunset in Santa Fé

Using the Santa Fé flag colours, red, yellow and light blue, the traditional DebConf font for the conference name and a handwriting style for the city/country's name. I wanted to create the atmosphere of a sunset in Santa Fé. The blue represents the river water, the yellow is the bridge, which represents connection, and the red is from the Debian people.

Translation Because the ?DebConf26 will be made in Argentina I wanted to represent in the logo not only the oldest Argentine tradition: the mate, but also the emblematic animal of the Coast: the "carpincho" (Hydrochoerus hydrochaeris), accompanied by the bird that lives throughout South America: the "Tero" (Vanellus chilensis). To finish I added a little "bizcochito" (a little cookie) to the design, something infallible in an afternoon with mate and friends. So my logo wants to represent the DebConf as a meeting of friends (the "carpincho" and the "Tero") united by Debian, the mate and supporting our beautiful community.

Translation To celebrate that the ?DebConf26 will be made in Argentina I decided to include our national flower in the Logo: the Ceibo (Erythrina crista-galli), along with the famous "Puente Colgante" that is emblematic of the City of Santa Fe. On this occasion the swirl of Debian is depicted as a breeze of refreshing wind, carrying in it the joy of a new DebConf. Because just as the bridge represents union, it is the wind that transports the history, joys and achievements of our community.

In this design the swirl of Debian is the burning sun that will illuminate Santa Fe with the arrival of the DebConf. The bridge symbolizes the union and the sun is the one who guides the steps of all those in our community who walk tirelessly day by day to see it thrive.

Mateando en la costa (drinking mate on the coast)

The capybara (locally known as carpincho), the world’s largest rodent, is native to this region. A long-standing local tradition is to enjoy mate by the riverside along Santa Fe’s waterfront, with the iconic Suspension Bridge rising above the landscape of the Setúbal Lagoon. The colors red, yellow, and light blue, proudly featured on the flag of the Province of Santa Fe, are also part of its cultural identity. In this spirit, the number “6” in this edition of DebConf lends itself naturally to being represented through the emblematic Debian swirl, symbolizing both continuity and community.
