The Debian Documentation Translation Client, (Debian Package: ddtc) is a nice tool that eases the life of the translator. But sometimes it is not clear how to use this, so I will collect questions and (hopefully) answers on this page.

Line Prefixes

There are several line prefixes that appear in the ddtc files. Some are documented, some are not (or are they?). If you meet another one, add it here:

 >>

Comment: You can add these lines in a review to send commands to the translator. Saved in the 'comment' variable.

 >>X+

Suggested Corrections: These are suggested correctens by a reviewer that you see in a bugreport. The X stands for a letter that appears in the header (anyone seen a bugreport with more than one letter?). If you change it to '+>X+', you validate this line.

 >>--

Your original Lines: These are your lines in a bugreport. If you think they are better than the reviewer's suggestion, replace them by

 +>--

 >>-

and

 >>+

Help Wanted! I see these in reviews of descriptions that I have reviewed before and that have changed.

 >>-

lines seem to be the the changes, while

 >>+

lines seem to be the original ones. Anyone?

Questions:

* Can some explain me how this has happened?

Somebody has messed up, but who (reviewer or translator) and when?

Slowly but surely, the work gets done...

Hi,

In bug reports (.bug):

 >>X#

is a review comment for reviewer X

In review (.rev):

When a new version of a translation is submitted by the translator, you receive it for further review, in the .rev file:

 >>-

is the new translated version

 >>+

is your last reviewed version

For your last question:

I assume you add an extra space character before the commented lines.

A reviewer used a feature of ddtc that issues special bug format for the french translation team because we consider there is a bug in the server. This feature makes bugs reports that are not fully compatible with ddts standard bug reports (you cannot reply on a bug report to accept the modifications). To use this feature, the whole team (reviewers and translators) must use ddtc for all ddts mails.

You can disable this feature by putting this line in your .ddtcrc:

  ddtc_bug = no

default is 'no', turning this to 'yes' really must be decided for the whole language team.

I discovered this page by chance, so please, if you have questions about ddtc, mail me, my address is in most files provided by the package.
