Debian Bullseye on Amazon EC2

SSH username

SSH to Debian instances as user admin using your SSH key, and then sudo -i to gain root access.

Status

The initial publication of official Debian 11 (bullseye) AMIs for Amazon EC2 took place on 15 August 2021. The AMIs are available for both arm64 and amd64 (x86_64) instance types in all public regions except those in in China. China and US GovCloud regional availability is planned for the future.

The AMIs are owned by AWS account ID 136693071363 and can be launched via the AWS Marketplace or directly using the AMI IDs listed below.

The current AMI names are:

  • debian-11-arm64-20220121-894

AMI IDs can be obtained via Public Parameters in the AWS Systems Manager Parameter Store in the /aws/service/debian/ namespace.

  • SR-IOV networking - Enhanced Networking (ENI)

  • Multiple ENI support - DHCP client is configured to support the number of network interfaces the instance supports (up to 8), hot plugged with udev
