Also, as a good general purpose backup and recovery tool is mondo (in DebianSid). It has the capability of backing up your entire Debian system on the medium of your choice. When it comes time to restore your system, it's as simple as booting from a CD or a floppy and it automatically restores your entire system. To make sure that your backup job worked properly, the bootable floppy or CD has the option of comparing the backup information and what is currently on your system.
