BSP in Salzburg, Austria - April 25-27 2014

Location, Date

Transportation

by plane

Reaching Salzburg by plane is easy - there are flights from all major (and even some smaller) cities in Europe to the Salzburg Airport W.A. Mozart. The BSP location is only a 2.2km walk or taxi drive away from the airport terminal.

In case flying to Salzburg is not an option you could fly to/from Munich Airport. From there you'll need about 3 hours by train via Salzburg HBF and bus to reach the BSP location.

by car

Reaching Salzburg and especially the BSP location by car is easy http://maps.google.at/maps?daddr=Karolingerstr.+36a,+Salzburg. If you come from Germany it is possible to reach the location without paying highway tolls by leaving the German A8 towards Bad Reichenhall and following the B20/B21 to Salzburg (use the 'Avoid tolls' option in Google Maps, for example).

by train

If you want to come to Salzburg by train your destination is Salzburg Main Station (Salzburg HBF). From there you either take a taxi (about 10-15 minutes, FIXME EUR) or the local bus (timetable, about 20 minutes, 2.10 EUR).

My personal recommendation would be to take one of the night trains which travel trough Salzburg.

by bus

  • Coming to Salzburg: Various coach services will bring you to Salzburg. If you live in the South and/or East of Austria, eurolines might be interesting for you. For travelling within Austria (and close to the border, for example to Bad Reichenhall) you could use the PostBus.

  • Travelling within Salzburg: http://www.stadtbus.at will have all the timetables for you. The bus stop next to the conova building is called 'Pressezentrum/Kugelhof'.

Accommodation

There will already be some tourists in Salzburg in April, so you might want to book early! There are various small towns and villages around Salzburg which might offer cheaper and not so crowded accommodations, don't hesitate to ask bzed@debian.org (bzed on OFTC and freenode) for details. Below we have some recommendations for your stay in Salzburg:

Please talk to BerndZeimetz if you need sponsored accommodation!

hotels

The following hotels are not sorted, especially not by price!

youth hostels

There are various hostels in the city - but as Salzburg will be crowded in June you might have to book early! To make it easier for you we've listed some hostels in alphabetical order below:

Holidays in Salzburg or what to do before/after the BSP

Salzburg (the state) is the perfect place for short and long holidays. You can do all kinds of mountain sports and of course visit various museums, castles and so on. If you are interested to stay here for some days don't hesitate to ask BerndZeimetz for more information.

Paragliding

It is possible to organize a trial course in paragliding on Thursday or Monday if 6 or more persons are interested. Please let BerndZeimetz know in advance (at least 2 weeks before the BSP) if you are interested. Depends on the weather, of course.
