Mentoring/teaching
- Please describe your general knowledge level. This will help us to join people with others they can learn from and teach to. Don't worry, we don't really think that knowledge is really on a linear scale like this, it's just a rough approximation. Everyone has something they can teach!
Teachers/DDs (If you are a DD, you belong here. But this isn't limited to DDs.) (can help others with their questions and knows ins and outs of many packaging related things)
- Michael Schultheiss
- Jimmy Kaplowitz
- dkg
Knowledgeable (can get package sources, rebuild, but doesn't have a great breadth of knowledge)
- Richard Darst
- jrollins
New Packager (knowledge of unix, toolsets, and software but not packaging)
- Ethan Glasser-Camp
- Greg Lyle
- Jeremy Baron
New Programmer ()
Organizers (spend time managing things and making sure students/mentors can find each other)
- Richard Darst
Work Goals
- Things you can do
- Fix bugs directly, contribute a patch to the BTS.
- Perhaps a fix exists somewhere else on the internet, and you just need to test it with Debian. You don't necessarily have to figure it out yourself.
- Look for bugs which are fixed in the upstream version. Note this in the BTS, see if the upgrade can be done smoothly.
- Look for bugs which are marked "unreproducible" or "needs more information". Can you provide some useful information ("works for me" can be useful, too, sometimes)
- Look for issues with upgrading packages or to squeeze.
- RC bugs that have a fix in Ubuntu (see below for a listing of packages with a newer version in Ubuntu).
- Help with documentation for squeeze.
Look at a Team and find their list of RC bugs. This can help you target towards your specialty.
- Fix bugs directly, contribute a patch to the BTS.
- Release-critical bugs lists:
http://udd.debian.org/cgi-bin/rcbugs.cgi -- Top of page is bugs with a patch. Patch needs uploading by a DD, but everyone can help with testing the patches to make sure that they work properly. Bottom section is RC bugs in Debian, with a newer version in Ubuntu. The Ubuntu version may have a fix to the bug, which can be gotten and tested against the Debian package.
Python RC bugs: http://tiny.pl/hhg32 ; 2.6 transition: http://tinyurl.com/Py26Transition ; for more see #debian-python topic
Ruby RC bugs: http://pkg-ruby-extras.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/qareport.cgi or see #debian-ruby topic
Perl RC bugs: http://pkg-perl.alioth.debian.org/cgi-bin/pet.cgi or see #debian-perl topic, ?DebianPerlGroup/OpenTasks
Look at other Teams and see what interests you, find their RC bug lists and try your hand at them. The team members will likely be happy to help you get started.
- Workshops/Tutorials
- There may be a mini-workshops on Friday and/or Saturday, related to bug squashing, however, our primary goal is fixing bugs.
