For folks with broadband Internet access, it's quite rare to download a full set of 650 MB iso images to install Debian. Instead, it's most common to just use a minimal network install CD instead. This network install iso (called "netinst") contains just enough packages to install a very basic Debian system. During the install procedure, it downloads the rest from the Internet as needed. A netinst iso image is around 180 MB. Also available is the so-called "businesscard" [[image]] that is around 40 MB. ''(I don't recall if the businesscard iso gives you the boot option of linux26. I don't think it does.)'' ''(I don't recall if the businesscard iso gives you the boot option of linux26. I don't think it does.)''

Netinstall

(I don't recall if the businesscard iso gives you the boot option of linux26. I don't think it does.)

Network install is much more efficient than downloading the full set of ISOs because, aside from the necessary core packages, network install only downloads the packages you've chosen (I always choose none (not even "manual package selection") and then apt-get install what I want later). The one catch is, of course, you'll need to be able to connect to the Internet during the install process.

If your wireless network card is not recognized by the installer, you might consider trying the install using a different network card, or using a wired (ethernet cable) connection.

If you have no way of establishing a network connection during the installation, then the network install will obviously not work. In that case, you will need to install using full installation CDs or DVDs. Note that the entire set of CDs is usually not required: the first one or, at most, two CDs should do. See also DebianCDContents to find out what is on each CD.

Debian Live

You can use DebianLive for network install.
