Abstract
To provide better quality coverage, and possibly a live stream from the Debian talk room at Fosdem 2008 by means of a multiple camera setup using Ben Hutchings' DVSwitch software.
This page is basic "scratch space" for the organisation of this, as we won't have anywhere near the amount of gear or people we had at DebConf.

Basic Setup Ideas
Video / shooting plan
missing items
The following items are still needed:
- new radio mic to test one for debconf8
- audio cables
- network cables
Cameras
Camera 1
- Focuses on speaker
- Takes sound input from mixing desk
- Used to run tape backup
- brought by daven (small sony dv camera, similar to bbc voices ones used at debconf)
- tripod brought by hermanr
radio mic brought by holger
- h01ger will bring some tapes
gismo will bring some tapes, too
Camera 2
- Used for wide shots of audience, also closeups when there is a question.
- Need not be operated full time.
MiniDV SONY DCR-PC55E brought by gismo (the Firewire port is on the docking station, as explained on the debconf-video mailing list)
- tripod brought by Womble2
Slide Grabbing
- VGA to DV adapter
- brought by Womble2
Audio
Small, portable mixer with four microphone inputs, e.g. Behringer 1202
- h01ger will bring it
- 2 omnidirectional condenser microphones in front of / above audience.
- brought by?
- 1 cardioid condenser microphone pointed in general direction of speaker.
- brought by?
- Line level output from mixer is plugged directly into audio input on camera.
- cable can be brought by daven
- Director monitors sound mix on headphones, to ensure quality is good
- brought by daven
Computers
Ideally 3 laptops, one for running dvswitch and taking input from the main camera, one for taking input from Camera 2 and the slide grabber, and another for encoding/streaming on the fly.
- linksys from h01ger, 192.168.42.254 and dhcp to internet, router, wlan disabled
- laptop1, 192.168.42.1, encoding and grabber for vga2dv device. brought by daven. 1cpu, 2ghz, builtin firewire, can expand to handling two sources using firewire via pccard
- laptop2, 192.168.42.2, grabber for camera 2, brought by p2-mate. g3, firewire via pccard
laptop3, 192.168.42.3, dvswitch and grabber for camera 1, brought by gismo. X60: 2CPUs, 2GHz, builtin Firewire
- server on the net needs to be set up - we can use apu for that, but can "only" use 70-80mbit from it. Should be plenty.
setup plan
- door opens
- the video team should be alone in the room for the first 5-10min, so that we can setup "without hurry" and then open the doors. we need that to occupy space to place the cameras well! then the audience will need 5min to get into the room
- $name_here will have to take away the overhead projector - needs screwdriver or compatible tool
- $name2_here sets up the video projector and connect it to the vga2dv device
- $name3 camera 1
- $name4 camera 2
- $name 5 laptop 1
- $name 6 laptop 2
- $name 7 laptop 3
- devroom volunteer cleans the room :-D
holger will bring
- behringer 1202 audio mixer
- dv tapes
- 5/10/15min slides
- not to use at fosdem but to give back to p2: firewire pci card plus cable
- power sockets
- linksys to provide a static local net
- network cables
- duct tape
- 300 gb hd to bring the videos home
- 200 gb hd with debconf7 videos
- gigabit switch
gismo will bring
MiniDV SONY DCR-PC55E camera
an X60 laptop
a 2x Firewire CardBus PCMCIA card for holger
- MiniDV tapes
Womble2 will bring
- VGA-DV converter
- a firewire cardbus card
- MiniDV tapes
- firewire 6-to-4 cables
the volunteer schedule printed on paper (this page) and http://layer-acht.org/fosdem2008.dia too
