Your Samba server processes may show high CPU utilization and your server's load average may be very high. Figures higher than 15 should be considered exhibiting this behavior. As of version 3.0.23c of Samba, the cause is related to the server-side implementation of CIFS. Newer versions of Samba should address this issue. Consider switching to NFSv3 as your rootfs method.
