What is it?
Debian Edu
is a Debian project to make the best distribution for educational purposes. Read more about Debian Edu....
Skolelinux
is the name of a Debian Pure Blend which is produced by the Debian Edu project.
Skole [skuːl] is the Norvegian word for school. Both skole and school come from the Greek word schole.
Goals
Our goals are:
- to provide a complete free software solution:
- tailored for the needs and use cases of educational scenarios,
- pre-configured for easy installation (standalone, as well as network-wide roll-out).
- easy-to-use, maintain, and administer,
supporting your language natively.
- to classify and package all free software related to education.
- to write documentation describing how to use the various software applications (in an educational context).
- to achieve international availability, translated into many languages.
Getting started
Consider running a test install using virtual machines.
A list of tested hardware is available. Please help update it with any computers you have used.
Download
Install
Read through the Documentation. The first chapters of the manual would provide a good overview.
Use
- Start using your new system! If you encounter difficulties not covered by the documentation, please add to it after you get help to resolve them.
- Remember that Debian Edu is 99.9% Debian, so almost all help for using Debian also applies to Debian Edu.
