At first you are always welcome regardless in which way you want to contribute.

The first step is to subscribe to the debian-edu@lists.debian.org mailinglist. Then you get all news which are important for the subproject. If you want to contribute reguarly and you also want to be informed about the changes of the subproject you should subscribe to commits@skolelinux.org .

After that you should write a mail to drift@skolelinux.org and request an account for developer.skolelinux.org to become an official member of the subproject. In your mail you can describe your interests and tell them where in which way you want to contribute. You need to provide prefered username and a unix passwd hash to have an account created. If you want to help in the development you should also create an account on alioth.debian.org and include the account name in the mail.

While you wait for a response you can work on the wiki-pages on wiki.debian.org and help to get them in a good shape and add new information. After you got the svn access you should make your first checkout of the subversion. Look at it carefully and try to figure out how things are organized there. There are the core components of the Debian-Edu/Skolelinux project, for example if you want to make a change in the installation or configuration of the system you have to do it in the core packages which are under subversion control. As a developer you are automatically a member of the "core maintenance"-team (For more information please look at ../Teams ) Again the core packages, many scripts and the documentation can be found in the svn. For example if you are interested in doing more documentation you should coordinate your work with the members of the documentation-team.

If you are interested in doing packaging for Debian-Edu/Skolelinux (as a developer it is neccessary to have some basic knowledge there) you can also request upload rights for the archive. Please make sure that you read the "Archive Policy" carefully which can be found under ../ArchivePolicy .

If you now feel that all the requirements are very hard and you need some more explanations/training in order to start with your contributions do not hesitate to include it in your mail to drift . If you request some help for the beginning you can write it to drift and they will assign a developer to you who can answer your questions and help you to make your first contributions. To see what is part of this short introduction/training you can have a look at the guideline for these developers who will help you. This guide can be found at: ../NewDevelopersHelp

Now please do not hesitate to join us and help us with improving Debian Debian-Edu/Skolelinux in order to provide the best distribution for schools and educational purpose.
